Wireless Internet (WiFi) Launched at Muscat International Airport

The
new Wireless Internet Service (WiFi) at Muscat International Airport was
launched by Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) and Omantel during a small
ceremony held at the airport terminal in the presence of George Bellew, Chief
Executive Officer of OAMC and Adil Ismail AL Raisi, Vice President of Corporate
Customers at Omantel.
Travelers and visitors to Muscat International Airport will be able to
use the high speed WiFi service for free and take advantage of surfing the
Internet, check personal e-mail’s, communicate with others and find out the
latest news, events and developments in the world. The free wireless internet
can be accessed by any hardware which supports WiFi technology such as Laptop
Computers and Mobile Phones.
According to George Bellew, CEO of OAMC “The
partnership with Omantel in the provision of wireless Internet service at Muscat
International Airport is crucial and provides the opportunity for travelers and
visitors to the airport to surf the Internet through hot spots at various parts
of the airport such as the duty free area, departure lounges, all departure
gates and the landside food and beverage outlets located at arrivals.
Commenting on the launch of this service, Adil Ismail Al Raisi
Vice President of Corporate Customers at Omantel said “We are pleased to partner
with OAMC in launching the wireless Internet service at Muscat International
Airport. This step will expand the availability of Wireless Internet through out
Oman, noting that the Omantel WiFi service provides high speed Internet as well
as a safe and secure web browsing and data transfer.
OAMC is responsible for the management and operation of Muscat International,
Salalah, Adam and other regional airports. The airports of Oman have witnessed
an increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2010, the total number
of passengers at Muscat International Airport has increased by 29% to 2,722,987
passengers during the first 6 months of 2010 from 2,110,890 passengers for the
same period last year. The total passenger traffic at Salalah Airport has
increased by 9% to 212,489 passengers during the first 6 months of 2010 from
194,311 passengers during the same period last year.
