Omantel Provides Grow Biz Service to SMEs
As part of its continuous efforts to support SMEs, Omantel - the leading telecom provider in the Sultanate - announced the launch of Grow Biz service cloud service that offers features similar to traditional PBX by allowing subscribers to combine traditional telephony features with enhanced IP switching.
Commenting on the new service, Eng. Adel Yousuf al Awadhi, Communication Solutions Manager said “SMEs become an integral part of the business landscape in Oman and the government is extending all the required support to ensure the growth of this important sector. We are glad to join these efforts again by offering a unique service to SMEs which will contribute to enhancing productivity and performance of small and medium enterprises”.
“Grow Biz is one of the fixed lines value added services that allow subscribers to get features similar to traditional PBX system thus eliminating the need to fix physical PBX which are typically managed by an operator. Through the new service, SMEs will receive additional benefits such as call waiting, free calls within the company or other branches, self-hunting, short dial feature, call pickup and remotely set call forwarding and other services.” he added.
The service is offered at a very competitive monthly rate of RO 2.500 only that will be added to the monthly subscription for fixed line subscribers. Customers of unlimited packages will pay only RO 1.
“On the occasion of this launch, Omantel is pleased to offer SMEs promotional offer which allow them to get RO 1 when subscribing to Grow Biz service. This means that subscribers to the new service will pay RO 1.500 instead of RO 2.500 for the first three months of the subscription and the customers of the unlimited packages will avail the service for free for three months,’ he continued. Distribution of 75% Cash Dividends
The Extraordinary Annual General Meeting of Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) held at Omantel headquarters yesterday (22nd March 2015) approved the amendment of the article No. 4 of the Company’s Article of Association by adding Import and export of devices and communications equipment as well as agencies and commercial representation. The Extra Ordinary General Meeting also approved the issuance of Sukuk.
The Extra Ordinary General Meeting was followed by Annual General Meeting which approved the distribution of cash dividends to shareholders amounting to 75% of the capital (equivalent of 75 baizas per share). As Omantel has already paid interim dividend of 40% of the nominal value on August 2014, the total dividend distribution for the financial year ended 31st December 2014 is 115%. Omantel AGM also authorized the Company’s Board of Directors to distribute interim dividends to maximum 55% from the paid up capital on August 2014.
Omantel AGM has also approved the report of the Board of Directors for the fiscal year ended on 31/12/2014, the company’s corporate governance report for the year ended on 31/12/2014 and the report of the independent auditors. It has also approved the profit and loss account and approved the balance sheet for the fiscal year ended on 31/12/2014. The Annual General Meeting furthermore approved the Board members remuneration, ratified the sitting fees for Board meetings and other committees paid to the members of the Board of Directors for the fiscal year that ended on 31/12/2014. It has also determined the sitting fees for the next fiscal year ending on 31/12/2015. The Assembly has taken note of the company’s transactions with related parties during the fiscal year ended on 31/12/2014 and the donations made for community service during 2014. The AGM also approved the proposed donations for community service amounting to RO 500,000 and approved the appointment of independent auditors for the next fiscal year ending on 31/12/2015 and determined their fees.
Commenting on the Company’s results, Saud bin Ahmed Al Nahari Vice Chairman of Omantel Board of Directors said “We are pleased with these financial results for the period ended on 31st December 2014 recording an increase in revenues of 4.0% to R.O 481.2 million compared with R.O 462.9 million in the corresponding period of 2013. Expenses for the period have grown by 2.8% to R.O 350.8 million from R.O 341.4 million in 2013.The Company’s net profit witnessed an increase of 2.6% and reached RO 122.4 Mn compared to R.O 119.3 million in 2013..
The growth was mainly driven by Domestic Retail revenues, which has recorded a growth of 4.3% and now reached RO 392.6 million compared to RO 376.3 million for the corresponding period of year 2013 mainly contributed by broadband and corporate data services. Fixed Line and Mobile Business retail revenues recorded a growth of 10.9% and 2% respectively. Fixed Broadband, Mobile Broadband and Data services revenues increased by 30.4%, 32.1% and 15.4% respectively. Fixed Broadband subscriber net addition in Year 2014 was the highest ever recorded so far. However, revenues from national, international calls and SMS have continued its declining trend due to Over The Top (OTT) services. Omantel Subsidiary Worldcall (WTL) revenues declined by 26.2%, which impacted overall revenue growth at group level.

As part of its endeavors to provide the best and high quality telecommunication services, Omantel has announced earlier a project to introduce Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology in Oman that will provide the fastest and most comprehensive range of internet applications.

Omanel the only operator in the Sultanate launches the trial testing of Wifi Roaming
Omantel has successfully participated – as the first omani operator at the trial testing of WiFi next generation hotspot (NGH) and PasspointTM/ Hotspot 2.0 technology at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2015 (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain from 2-5 March. The new technology will allow Omantel customers using IOS and selected Android devices to roam onto wifi networks using secure credentials and benefit from a secure wifi connection in the future.
Commenting on this participation, Mohammed Yahya al Salmi, Senior Manager Corporate Communications at Omantel said ' Omantel is keen on participating annually at MWC which focuses on IT&C issues especially it provides an ideal opportunity to meet with the major mobile operators and technology supplier to discuss with them the best and most advanced solutions that develop the experience of our customers.
He added: “Omantel joined hands with more than 30 International operators, the GSAM and the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) to offer our customers a secure and safe roaming utilizing the next generation of WiFi with Passpoint TM/Hotspot 2.0 technology.”

Omantel Revenues Grows by 4.0% to R.O 481.2 Mn and Net Profit increased to RO 122.4 Mn
2014 Records the Highest Ever Fixed Broadband Growth
Oman Telecommunications Company S.A.O.G (Omantel. MSM: OTEL), revealed today the Company’s audited financial results for the period ended on 31st December 2014 recording an increase in revenues of 4.0% to R.O 481.2 million compared with R.O 462.9 million in the corresponding period of 2013. Expenses for the period have grown by 2.8% to R.O 350.8 million from R.O 341.4 million in 2013.
The Company’s net profit witnessed an increase of 2.6% and reached RO 122.4 Mn compared to R.O 119.3 million in 2013. This is the highest net profit achieved in last 5 years.
Omantel said that growth was mainly driven by Domestic Retail revenues, which has recorded a growth of 4.3% and now reached RO 392.6 million compared to RO 376.3 million for the corresponding period of year 2013 mainly contributed by broadband and corporate data services. Fixed Line and Mobile Business retail revenues recorded a growth of 10.9% and 2% respectively. Fixed Broadband, Mobile Broadband and Data services revenues increased by 30.4%, 32.1% and 15.4% respectively. Fixed Broadband subscriber net addition in Year 2014 was the highest ever recorded so far.
However, revenues from national, international calls and SMS have continued its declining trend due to Over The Top (OTT) services. Omantel Subsidiary Worldcall (WTL) revenues declined by 26.2%, which impacted overall revenue growth at group level.
Group operating expenses is marginally increased by 2.8% to RO 350.8 million compared to RO 341.4 million for the corresponding period of year 2013. The major reasons for increase in operating expenses are attributed to increase in operating & maintenance (O&M), depreciation, employee costs and administrative expenses.
EBITDA & Net Profit:
EBITDA has recorded an impressive growth of 6.1% and Net Profit after tax has increased by 2.6%. EBITDA and Net Profit margin for the Year 2014 is 44% and 25.4% compared to the corresponding period EBITDA of 43.1% and 25.8% respectively. Group Net Profit is impacted by the loss of WTL.

Omantel Board Recommends 75% Dividend Distribution
Omantel Board of Directors recommended to the Annual General Meeting of Omantel a dividend distribution of 75% of the nominal value of the share. As Omantel has already paid interim dividend of 40% of the par value on August 2014, the total dividend distribution for the financial year ended 31st December 2014 will be 115%.
Omantel Board will recommend also to the Company’s Annual General Meeting distributing an interim dividend of up to 40% of the par value of the share to be paid on August 2015.
100% Extra credit on Hayyak Top Up
Omantel, the leading telecommunication provider in the Sultanate has announced the latest promotion for Hayyak customers. This new promotion gives Hayyak customers who top up with RO3, RO5 and RO10 or RO3 and above electronically with 100% free extra credit. The offer is available from 6th to 8th January 2015.

Talal Al Mamari: Our Efforts were Focused on Restoring our Services As Early As Possible
Omantel network was impacted by a technical fault on a network element sending conflicting data at mid-day Monday 17th November 2014. This has resulted in a total interruption of mobile services and partial interruption of fixed and internet services.
Omantel confirmed that all services were restored on the same day as relentless efforts had been made by the Company’s teams to ensure rapid recovery. This first of its kind technical fault, affected majority of the Company’s services in the Sultanate.
Commenting on this incident, Talal Said Al Mamari Chief Executive Officer of Omantel said “Our network experienced on Monday an exceptional technical fault that impacted our mobile, fixed and internet services. An immediate diagnosis was carried out by the Network Operations Center and Emergency Team to resolve the fault and we were successfully able to fully restore our services on the same day without the need to rely on other networks or so called “national roaming”.
“Now that our services are fully restored, our efforts are focused on investigating the real cause of this incident to enable us avoid similar incidents in the future” Al Mamari added.
“Such faults are experienced by different operators across the world. However, the challenge was that it occurred in one of the network elements that was sending conflicting data in huge volumes and the real reason was not identifiable. To ensure fast restoration of services, a decision was taken to isolate this element from the network as a quick remedy” Omantel CEO furthered.
Commenting on the time taken to restore the services, Omantel CEO said that the restoration protocols required gradual isolation of a number of network elements by following preventive measures and technical requirements to ensure that no further complexities occur until the affected network element was identified.
“We would like to express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by this incident appreciating their patience and understanding. We want to assure our commitment to provide quality telecom services throughout the Sultanate”.
Omantel Net Profit Grows by 7% to R.O 96 Million and Revenue grows to R.O 357.6 Million
November 2014: Oman Telecommunications Company S.A.O.G (Omantel. MSM: OTEL) Board of Directors approved today (Wednesday) the Company’s financial results for the period ended 30th Sep 2014, that witnessed an increase in net profit by 7%. The company’s revenue has recorded a growth of 1.7% and reached R.O 357.6 million as of 30th Sep 2014 compared to R.O 351.5 of the corresponding period of 2013, while the net profit has increased to R.O 95.9 million compared to R.O 89.6 million in 2013.
Group Revenue as of September 2014 is RO 357.6 million, an increase of 1.7% compared to RO 351.5 million for the corresponding period of year 2013.
Domestic Retail Revenues has recorded a growth of 3.3% and now reached RO 291 million compared to RO 281.8 million for the corresponding period of 2013 mainly contributed by broadband and corporate data services. Fixed Line and Mobile Business retail revenues recorded a growth of 9.9% and 1% respectively. Revenues from national, international calls and SMS have continued its declining trend due to Over The Top (OTT) services.
Group Operating expenses marginally increased by 0.2% to RO 257.6 million compared to RO 257.1 million for the corresponding period of year 2013. The major reasons for increase in operating expenses are attributed to increase in employee costs, operating & maintenance and depreciation expenses.
EBITDA & Net Profit:
EBITDA and Net Profit after tax both have recorded an impressive growth of 4.4% and 7% respectively. Domestic Net Profit after tax has recorded an increase of 9.4% to reach RO 101.8 million compared to RO 93 million of the corresponding period of year 2013. Group profit has been impacted by the loss of WTL.
Broadband segment both Mobile and Fixed Broadband services have been the key driver for the growth. Mobile and Fixed Broadband subscribers grew by 19% and 33%, while revenue also recorded a growth of 31% and 33% respectively.
Omantel domestic subscriber base witnessed a remarkable growth of 6% as of 30th Sep 2014 reaching 3.260 million (excluding mobile resellers). Including Worldcall, total subscribers base has reached 4.204 million as of 30th Sep 2014 compared to 4 million of the corresponding period of the previous year, a growth of 5%.
Commenting on the results, Omantel Chief Executive Officer, Talal bin Said Al Mamari said: “We are pleased with the steady growth that Omantel made in the first nine months of this year despite the increased market challenges and intensified competition”.
