Top Rating Agencies Continue Their High Ratings for Omantel
Omantel, the leading telecommunications service provider in the Sultanate of Oman continued to be rated BBB+/A-2 by Standard and Poor’s and A3 by Moody’s.
In 2013 Standard and Poor’s had assigned a first time rating BBB+/A-2 and Moody’s had assigned a first time rating of A3.
According to Standard and Poor’s the ratings continue to reflect Omantel’s strong financial ratios and its strong competitive position in Oman’s fixed line and mobile telephony markets, solid operating performance and good profitability, strong net cash position and credit metrics.
According to, Moody’s , “ The A3 rating combines Omantel's fundamental credit quality, strong financial profile, which is reflected by the company's solid free cash flow generation despite its high capital expenditures for network upgrades. The rating is also driven by our expectation that the company will maintain a conservative leverage profile, with debt/EBITDA not exceeding 1.5 xs. In addition, the rating reflects the high barriers of entry to the Omani telecom market given the country's large territory relative to its population, which acts as a deterrent to potential entrants into the market.

Omantel Board Accepts Dr. Amer Al Rawas Resignation and Appointment of Talal Al Mamari as Omantel’s New Chief Executive
Board of Directors appreciates Dr. Amer Contributions and Achievements
Omantel Board of Directors announced the appointment of Mr. Talal Said Marhoon Al Mamari as new Chief Executive Officer with effect from today (Sunday) 29th June 2014 in replacement of Dr. Amer Awadh Al Rawas who decided to move to Oil & Gas sector as CEO of one of the companies involved in the enhancement of oil production and preserving the environment surrounding the oil production operations. The Board of Directors has earlier approved the Succession Plan for the Senior Executive roles within the Company to ensure business continuity as usual in case of any senior executive role becomes vacant.
Prior to his appointment as Omantel’s CEO, Mr. Talal Al Mamari was holding the position of Chief Financial Officer of Omantel with the responsibility of preserving and creating shareholder value for the Company investors.
Mr. Talal Al Mamari Chairs several internal committees and teams and sets in Boards of different Companies and Investment Funds. He played instrumental role in the Initial Public Offering in 2005 and in the integration of mobile and fixed operations and later the full legal merger of Oman Mobile with Omantel. Mr. Talal also led Omantel credit rating process by Moody’s (A3) and Standard & Poors (BBB + / A-2) which led to enhancement of investors’ trust in the Company.

Omantel Enhances the Self-care Portal
In a move to improve the corporate customer experience, Omantel announced the enhancement of its self-care portal in order to serve and assist corporate customers to self-manage and make necessary changes to their accounts.

Omantel organizes a recognition event for its Dhofar distributors
Omantel the leading telecommunication services provider in the Sultanate has recently organized a recognition event for its strategic partners and agents in Dhofar Governorate to celebrate the outstanding results achieved during last period’s sales. The ceremony was held under the auspices of Engineer Mohammed Ali Bait Ali, General Manager of Omantel, Dhofar region.

Omantel selected as one of the Top Three Wholesale Operators in the World
Omantel, the leading telecom operator in the Sultanate of Oman has been recently selected as one of the top three wholesale operators in the world from a host Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) perspective. This prestigious selection was announced during the annual MVNO World Congress which was held in Berlin, Germany.
Omantel had a strong presence in this global event through its effective participation. Eng. Yasser Redha Al Lawati, C/T Senior Manager National Account and Interconnection in the Wholesale Business Unit participated as a panelist and speaker. Yasser was part of a major panel discussion on "How to Make it Easier for the MVNO" in which he shared Omantel’s views on how to support MVNOs and help them to sustain and flourish. Yasser was also the only speaker from the Middle East and delivered Omantel presented its partnership with MVNOs (i.e. Mobile Resellers), which is proved to be a reference of success for the whole region.

MVNOs refer to telecom service providers who do not own their own full-fledged telecom network. They have different forms depending on their license, business direction and technical setup. In Oman, the existing type of MVNOs is known as Mobile Resellers. They are Class II telecom licensees who do not have their own network elements. They buy telecom services on wholesale basis from Class I operators and package the services for retail with their own brand name. They have independent marketing, branding, sales and customer care functionalities.
The successful partnership model that was created between Omantel and the MVNOs helped both customers and the sector alike. The introduction of MVNOs has enabled extended reach to each and every segment in the market (especially those that were previously untapped) to benefit from tailored offerings as well as customized services. On the other hand, Omantel has been able to reverse a global phenomenon of decreasing network market share of incumbent operators as it was successful in increasing its network market-share to more than 58%, thanks to the victorious strategy and the win-win situation created for all parties.
Omantel enters into an agreement with Etihad Airways to provide exclusive offers to Omantel employees

Omantel Net Profit Grows by 18.1% to R.O 34.4 and Revenue Increases by 5%
Oman Telecommunications Company S.A.O.G (Omantel. MSM: OTEL), revealed today the Company’s preliminary (unaudited) financial results for the first quarter of 2014 recording an increase in net profit of 18.1% to R.O 34.4 million compared with R.O 29.1 million in the corresponding period of last year and an increase of 5% in the revenue to R.O 120.2 from R.O 114.5 million in 2013.
The exceptional growth in net profit is attributed to the growth of Company’s operations especially Wholesale which has grown by 29%. Furthermore, Fixed and Mobile businesses continued its growth plateau mainly driven by mobile & fixed broadband and corporate data services. However, SMS, National and International Call revenues declined compared to the corresponding period.
The total domestic subscriber base (including mobile and fixed businesses) has reached 3.113 million (excluding Mobile Resellers), recording a growth rate of 5.3% over the last year. Group subscriber base has reached 4.042 million as of March’14 compared to 3.883 million of the corresponding period of the previous year, a growth of 4.1%. The subscriber base includes WTL subscribers, which has now reached 929 K.
Group Operating expenses declined by 0.9% to RO 83.1 million compared to RO 83.9 million for the corresponding period of year 2013. The decline is mainly attributed to several cost optimization initiatives carried out by the Company.
During first quarter of 2014, Omantel subsidiary in Pakistan (Worldcall Telecom Limited) performance has improved and incurred a net profit of RO 0.89 Mn compared to a loss of RO 0.997 Mn in the same period of 2013.
Commenting on the results, Omantel Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Amer Awadh Al Rawas said: “We are proud to see these results which reaffirms the success of Omantel strategy to improve its operations benefitting from the unique geographical location of the Sultanate, the robust nation-wide infrastructure and the extensive international connectivity Omantel has through 11 international submarine cable systems out of 9 are already operational”.
“Omantel clear strategy that was developed 5 years ago to grow the Company’s international wholesale business has enabled us to achieve these results. We become able to sell international capacity as we have invested heavily in enhancing our international connectivity as well as hosting global content and data centers which made Omantel the preferred partner for various international operators” Al Rawas added.
“Omantel continued its strategy and initiatives to enhance customer experience and rolled out different network expansion projects that included the installation of neighborhood exchanges (Multi Service Access Networks) as well as new 3.5G & 4G mobile sites in new areas to increase the footprint of our fixed and mobile broadband services” Al Rawas further pointed out.

These preliminary results are subject to the approval of the Company’s Board of Directors in its next meeting which will be held within the statuary period set by Capital Market Authority.

In another milestone achievement for the private sector in the Sultanate, His Highness Sheikh Sabah al Ahmed Jabir al Sabah, the Emir of the State of Kuwait conferred Omantel ' Excellence award of the second grade on the GCC level which comes in recognition of Omantel major contributions to youth fields. The award was received in special gala held on the sidelines of the GCC Youths and Sports Ministers' meeting.
Sheikh Saad Mohammed al Mardhouf , Minister of Sports Affairs and chairman of the Sultanate's delegation taking part at the 28th meeting for the GCC Youths and Sports Minister hosted by Kuwait, congratulated Omantel on the achievement saying that Omantel is ' a key partner in supporting youth and sports in the Sultanate.
