Omantel maintains its position as Oman’s most valuable brand
Omantel brand records one of the highest growth rates during 2015 (+50%)
Omantel brand has seen a remarkable growth that helped the company to maintain its position as Oman's most valuable brand, according to a recent study published by Brand Finance, one of the world's leading intangible assets and brand valuation independent consultancies. Omantel moved 8 positions upwards to become 33rd among the 50 most valuable brands in MENA region.
As per the independent annual survey that was published recently by Gulf Marketing Review, the value of Omantel brand stood at $479m with a growth by more than 50% compared to last year when the brand value was estimated at $319m. The growth rate reflects the improvement in Omantel brand and its ability to be among the top growing brands in the region. Omantel brand also received (AA-) ‘very strong’ rating in terms of brand strength.
The achievement sheds the light on the status of Omantel as a leading brand in the Sultanate; as the leading telecom provider in the Sultanate and the biggest company listed in Muscat Securities Market. It also comes in recognition of the high quality services provided by Omantel to its individual and corporate customers as well as its wide footprint through touching the everyday lives of many people in Oman.
Commenting on the achievement, Talal bin Said al Mamari, CEO Omantel said “We are pleased to have this achievement which proves the company’s leadership not only in the telecom but in business sector in general.”
“This achievement not only reiterates Omantel’s leadership in as a brand, but also gives an indicator about our customer satisfaction and loyalty which played a key role in materializing this achievement”, he added.

As per Brand Finance, the calculation of the brand value is done by using the Royalty Relief methodology which determines the value a company would be willing to pay to license its brand as if it did not own it. This approach involves estimating the future revenue attributable to a brand and calculating a royalty rate that would be charged for the use of the brand. The monetary value of the brand is calculated in terms of (1) Brand Strength Index, (2) Royalty Rate, and (3) Future Brand Revenues. This method is considered as the most reliable as it is consistent with the tax and judiciary uses as the calculation is carried out by an independent agency. The assessment process is also consistent with the ISO standards.
It should be noted that Omantel brand has received a number of regional and international awards over the past years. Besides maintaining its position as Oman’s most valuable brand, Omantel brand has been selected as the best brand in telecom sector – as per the annual survey conducted by Business Today magazine. Revenue Grows by 7.5% to R.O 256.6 Million and Net profit Reaches R.O 61.3 Million
Omantel declares an interim dividend of 55% of paid up capital
Oman Telecommunications Company S.A.O.G (Omantel. MSM: OTEL), revealed today the Company’s preliminary unaudited financial results for the 2nd Quarter ended on 30th June 2015. Group revenue recorded a growth of 7.5% to R.O 256.6 million compared with R.O 238.6 million in the corresponding period of 2014, while the net profit has reached R.O 61.3 million compared to R.O 65.9 million in 2014. Expenses for the period have increased by 12.7% to R.O 190.6 million from R.O 169.1 million in 2014.
Omantel said that growth was mainly driven by Domestic retail revenues which have recorded a growth of 8.3% and now reached RO 253 million compared to RO 233.6 million for the corresponding period of year 2014 mainly contributed by both fixed & mobile broadband and wholesale services. All major segments – Consumer, Corporate and Wholesale revenues have recorded a growth over last year.
Group Operating expenses increased by 12.7% to RO 190.6 million compared to RO 169.1 million for the corresponding period of year 2014. The major reasons for increase in operating expenses are attributed to increase in roaming, operating & maintenance (O&M), depreciation, employee costs, marketing cost and administrative expenses. The increase in O&M and depreciation are the result of increased investment in network modernization / expansion for both mobile and fixed networks to meet the growing demand of broadband services as well as increase in costs related to submarine cable capacity IRU sales, cost of devices etc.,. Administrative costs include RO 1 Mn towards penalty imposed by TRA on account of network outage in November14 in addition to consultancy costs related to new Corporate Strategy and Spend optimization initiatives, which are of non-recurrent nature.
The Group recorded a net profit of RO 61.3 Mn in the 2nd quarter of 2015 compared to R.O 65.9 million in this same period of 2014. Decline in net Profit is mainly due to loss incurred by Omantel’s subsidiary Worldcall. Also, increase in domestic Opex mainly of non-recurrent nature also impacted the domestic net profit for the quarter. Domestic Net profit decreased by 2.5% to RO 66.9 million compared to RO 68.6 million in the corresponding period of 2014.
Broadband segment both Mobile and Fixed Broadband services have been the key driver for the growth. Mobile and Fixed Broadband subscribers grew by 12% and 30%.
Omantel domestic subscriber base witnessed a growth of 3% as of 30th June 2015 reaching 3.329 million (excluding mobile resellers).
Based on the authorization of the AGM in March 2015, the Board has decided to distribute interim dividend of 55% of the paid up capital (55 bz per share) to shareholders registered on 31 August 2015.
Additional Spectrum on 800 / 2600 Mhz
Omantel has acquired additional spectrum in 800 and 2600 Mhz to enhance its mobile Broadband service offerings for RO 7.7 Mn. This is expected to boost the deployment of LTE and enable the Company to have wide coverage of LTE services across the Sultanate resulting in improved quality of broadband services.
Commenting on the results, Omantel Chief Executive Officer, Talal bin Said Al Mamari said: “Omantel has continued to see a steady growth especially in the revenue despite the decline of net profit due to the existence of some non-recurrent expenses during the quarter”.
“The first half of 2015 recorded a very good growth in our mobile and fixed broadband customer base, a trend that we are expecting to continue and become a significant contributor to our growth for years to come" Al Mamari added.

Referral Program Provides Hayyak Subscribers with Free Credit
Omantel, the leading telecommunications provider in the Sultanate of Oman, invites Hayyak subscribers to bring their friends or family members to join Omantel and benefit from the free credit for both of them, through The ' Referral Program ', which was launched last wednesday to enrich the experiences of their customers.
Shadli Al Abdulsalam, Senior Manager Product Development at Omantel Consumer Business Unit said “the offer comes in to encourage family and friends to join Omantel network and benefit from the discounted rates within the network and to explore an interesting world of benefit from the services provided by Omantel “.
He said “the offer is valid for all Hayyak subscribers who have been with Omantel for at least six months which allow them to invite their friends or family members to join Omantel family. To enjoy this service the new subscriber will have to send his referrer number via SMS to 80578 within 14 days from joining Omantel.”
He also added “Both the referrer and the new subscriber will get 50% free credit from what the new subscriber spend today in the next day. For example, if the new subscriber who joined Omantel used 400 Bz on the first day, the referrer will get 200 Bz free credit and also the new subscriber will get 200 Bz and so on for 30 days to the Referrer and 90 days for the new subscriber.”
In addition, the free credit may be used for local and international calls, SMS and paid internet and is only valid for one day, also the subscriber may check their free credit balance by calling *130#.
500 Bz Emergency Credit for Hayyak Costumers
Omantel -Oman’s leading telecommunications service provider in the Sultanate - has announced the launch of its latest service which aims to keep its’ customers always connected. This unique service offers to Hayyak customers’ emergency credit to use when they don’t have sufficient credit until they manage to recharge their credit again.
Hayyak customers, whose credit reach 39 Baises or less, will receive an SMS informing them to benefit from the advance credit of 500Bz. Upon accepting the credit by simply sending ‘y’ to 91224, customers will receive the credit advance instantly. This advance credit will later be deducted from their balance upon their next recharge.
Commenting on this new service, Sahar Khalfan al Asmi, Manager of Applications and Data Services at Omantel Consumer Unit said “Sometimes our customers run out of credit and not be able to recharge instantly for different reasons. Therefore we introduced this service to make sure they stay connected whenever and wherever they are.”
She also added “Subscribers can use this advanced credit to make local or International phone calls, send SMSs or even surf the internet.”
To activate this service; simply all what the subscriber needs to do is to respond by sending 'Y' to the SMS he/she receives once their balance reach less than 39 Bz. This operation will be charged for 50 Bz per message, which will be deducted from the next top up. The offer will remain valid up to 8th August 2015.

Omantel To Conduct SME Symposium in Dhofar Tomorrow
In response to the recommendations made at the SMEs Decision Implementation Follow Up Symposium and in a bid to enhance the relationship between Omantel and SMEs, Omantel will organize tomorrow Wednesday at Crown Plaza Hotel in Salalah the second SME symposium under the theme 'Omantel , Together' from 9.00 am to 2.00pm.
The organization of the second version of this symposium comes after the success of the first symposium which was organized at Omantel HQs in Mawaleh in Muscat Governorate in the presence of a large number of entrepreneurs.
The workshop provided an ideal platform for discussing Omantel procurement process & procedures designed a special package to enhance supporting SME participation on Omantel procurement transactions. It will also include tips on” How to do business with Omantel.”
“Omantel is making great endeavors to support the efforts made by the Omani government to enhance the growth of the national economy and activate the role played by SMEs in the Omani economy. Omantel Provides Grow Biz Service to SMEs
As part of its continuous efforts to support SMEs, Omantel - the leading telecom provider in the Sultanate - announced the launch of Grow Biz service cloud service that offers features similar to traditional PBX by allowing subscribers to combine traditional telephony features with enhanced IP switching.

Omantel EGM Approves Issuance of Sukuk
Distribution of 75% Cash Dividends
The Extraordinary Annual General Meeting of Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) held at Omantel headquarters yesterday (22nd March 2015) approved the amendment of the article No. 4 of the Company’s Article of Association by adding Import and export of devices and communications equipment as well as agencies and commercial representation. The Extra Ordinary General Meeting also approved the issuance of Sukuk.
The Extra Ordinary General Meeting was followed by Annual General Meeting which approved the distribution of cash dividends to shareholders amounting to 75% of the capital (equivalent of 75 baizas per share). As Omantel has already paid interim dividend of 40% of the nominal value on August 2014, the total dividend distribution for the financial year ended 31st December 2014 is 115%. Omantel AGM also authorized the Company’s Board of Directors to distribute interim dividends to maximum 55% from the paid up capital on August 2014.
Omantel AGM has also approved the report of the Board of Directors for the fiscal year ended on 31/12/2014, the company’s corporate governance report for the year ended on 31/12/2014 and the report of the independent auditors. It has also approved the profit and loss account and approved the balance sheet for the fiscal year ended on 31/12/2014. The Annual General Meeting furthermore approved the Board members remuneration, ratified the sitting fees for Board meetings and other committees paid to the members of the Board of Directors for the fiscal year that ended on 31/12/2014. It has also determined the sitting fees for the next fiscal year ending on 31/12/2015. The Assembly has taken note of the company’s transactions with related parties during the fiscal year ended on 31/12/2014 and the donations made for community service during 2014. The AGM also approved the proposed donations for community service amounting to RO 500,000 and approved the appointment of independent auditors for the next fiscal year ending on 31/12/2015 and determined their fees.
Commenting on the Company’s results, Saud bin Ahmed Al Nahari Vice Chairman of Omantel Board of Directors said “We are pleased with these financial results for the period ended on 31st December 2014 recording an increase in revenues of 4.0% to R.O 481.2 million compared with R.O 462.9 million in the corresponding period of 2013. Expenses for the period have grown by 2.8% to R.O 350.8 million from R.O 341.4 million in 2013.The Company’s net profit witnessed an increase of 2.6% and reached RO 122.4 Mn compared to R.O 119.3 million in 2013..
The growth was mainly driven by Domestic Retail revenues, which has recorded a growth of 4.3% and now reached RO 392.6 million compared to RO 376.3 million for the corresponding period of year 2013 mainly contributed by broadband and corporate data services. Fixed Line and Mobile Business retail revenues recorded a growth of 10.9% and 2% respectively. Fixed Broadband, Mobile Broadband and Data services revenues increased by 30.4%, 32.1% and 15.4% respectively. Fixed Broadband subscriber net addition in Year 2014 was the highest ever recorded so far. However, revenues from national, international calls and SMS have continued its declining trend due to Over The Top (OTT) services. Omantel Subsidiary Worldcall (WTL) revenues declined by 26.2%, which impacted overall revenue growth at group level.

Al Ajmi : Our strategy aims at covering all the newly planned areas with FTTH
As part of its endeavors to provide the best and high quality telecommunication services, Omantel has announced earlier a project to introduce Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology in Oman that will provide the fastest and most comprehensive range of internet applications.
The introduction of FTTH using the GPON technology is a remarkable leap in the application of modern communications technology that can provide a comprehensive variety of entertainment options for both the home and business users through a high speed connection network. The FTTH technology will also provide internet users with high speed internet services that will support services such as high definition video, video on demand, e-Education etc.
The project has been implemented in many phases starting with main cities in different governorate. FTTH has also been provided in areas located outside main cities. The company continues its endeavors to extend FTTH to the newly planned areas as alternative for the copper cables that were used in the past.

Omanel the only operator in the Sultanate launches the trial testing of Wifi Roaming
Omantel has successfully participated – as the first omani operator at the trial testing of WiFi next generation hotspot (NGH) and PasspointTM/ Hotspot 2.0 technology at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2015 (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain from 2-5 March. The new technology will allow Omantel customers using IOS and selected Android devices to roam onto wifi networks using secure credentials and benefit from a secure wifi connection in the future.
Commenting on this participation, Mohammed Yahya al Salmi, Senior Manager Corporate Communications at Omantel said ' Omantel is keen on participating annually at MWC which focuses on IT&C issues especially it provides an ideal opportunity to meet with the major mobile operators and technology supplier to discuss with them the best and most advanced solutions that develop the experience of our customers.
He added: “Omantel joined hands with more than 30 International operators, the GSAM and the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) to offer our customers a secure and safe roaming utilizing the next generation of WiFi with Passpoint TM/Hotspot 2.0 technology.”
