Omantel Services Fully RestoredOmantel1

Omantel network was impacted by a technical fault on a network element sending conflicting data at mid-day Monday 17th November 2014. This has resulted in a total interruption of mobile services and partial interruption of fixed and internet services.

Omantel confirmed that all services were restored on the same day as relentless efforts had been made by the Company’s teams to ensure rapid recovery. This first of its kind technical fault, affected majority of the Company’s services in the Sultanate.

Commenting on this incident, Talal Said Al Mamari Chief Executive Officer of Omantel said “Our network experienced on Monday an exceptional technical fault that impacted our mobile, fixed and internet services. An immediate diagnosis was carried out by the Network Operations Center and Emergency Team to resolve the fault and we were successfully able to fully restore our services on the same day without the need to rely on other networks or so called “national roaming”.

“Now that our services are fully restored, our efforts are focused on investigating the real cause of this incident to enable us avoid similar incidents in the future” Al Mamari added.

“Such faults are experienced by different operators across the world. However, the challenge was that it occurred in one of the network elements that was sending conflicting data in huge volumes and the real reason was not identifiable. To ensure fast restoration of services, a decision was taken to isolate this element from the network as a quick remedy” Omantel CEO furthered.

Commenting on the time taken to restore the services, Omantel CEO said that the restoration protocols required gradual isolation of a number of network elements by following preventive measures and technical requirements to ensure that no further complexities occur until the affected network element was identified.

“We would like to express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by this incident appreciating their patience and understanding. We want to assure our commitment to provide quality telecom services throughout the Sultanate”.
