Omantel receives Golden Gear Trophy in recognition of its immense support to the sports sector


Muscat – 10th June 2022: Omantel, the leading provider of integrated telecommunication services in the Sultanate of Oman, received the Golden Gear Trophy for being the largest supporter of the sports sector in the Sultanate of Oman. The awarding took place in a ceremony held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth to honor the leaders in sports activities in 2022 and the supporters of the sports sector, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al-Sabti, Minister of Health, and in the presence of Eng. Aladdin Bait Fadhil, Chief Commercial Officer at Omantel.

The award recognizes Omantel’s role and efforts in supporting the youth and sports sector and its initiatives in this regard. Eng. Aladdin Bait Fadhil, Chief Commercial Officer at Omantel, commented "We are honoured to have received the Golden Gear Trophy once again; it is a testimony to the efforts that we have made to support various sports activities in the Sultanate of Oman last year.”

He also added, “Sports and youth are among the main areas of focus for Omantel, and our support for the sports sector is diverse; it includes the sponsorship of sports federations such as sponsoring the Oman’s national football team's participation in the Gulf Cup and the Elite football League 'Omantel League'. We also sponsor the Table Tennis Federation, Cricket Federation, Golf Federation, Asian Hockey Federation Cup 2022, International Horse Jumping Championship in Duqm, Asian Amateur Chess Championship, World Cricket Championship qualifiers, and the Oman eSports Championship for sports games”.

Besides, Omantel has strengthened its presence in sports by supporting athletes and sports tournaments. It has supported Omani individual athletes like Ahmed Al Harthi who participates in international motorsports arenas, diver Omar Al-Ghailani, and ultra-trail runner Issa Al Abri during the mountain trail running marathon in Thailand. In addition, Omantel supported Abdullah Al Jabri in his participation in the World Bodybuilding Championship in Spain.

Omantel has also participated in supporting various local events and has been a partner in the successes achieved by those different events, such as the conclusion of His Majesty's Football Cup, the sponsorship of the final of His Majesty's Cup for Hockey in 2022, sponsorship of the School Sports Union, sponsorship of the Bashair Festival for Arabian Camel Racing, sponsorship of sports activities and military teams for the year 2022 (Ministry of Defense), sponsorship of the Muscat Fitness, Bodybuilding and Physical Strength Championship, the first of its kind in Oman, sponsorship of the World Pioneers Table Tennis Championship hosted by the Omani Table Tennis Federation, sponsorship of the Tour of Oman 2022 for cycling, and support for the Women's Sports and Creativity Club for the year 2022.

Furthermore, Omantel supports the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in hosting international sporting events, which enhance the country's presence on the global sports map. This is achieved through collaboration with various sports-related entities in Oman with the aim of introducing various sports and encouraging youth participation in them.
